  • Mark L. Perry - President & Chief Executive Officer

    Mr. Perry was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of Aerovance in February 2007. He has served as a Director since October 2004, and served as Chairman from 2006 to 2007. Mr. Perry was the Senior Business Advisor for Gilead Sciences, Inc., reporting to the CEO, from 2004 until 2007. Mr. Perry was an executive officer of Gilead from 1994 to 2004, serving in a variety of capacities, including General Counsel, Chief Financial Officer and most recently, Executive Vice President of Operations, responsible for worldwide sales & marketing, legal, manufacturing and facilities. From 1981 to 1994, Mr. Perry was with the law firm Cooley Godward Kronish LLP in San Francisco and Palo Alto, serving as a partner of the firm from 1987 until 1994. Mr. Perry received his J.D. degree from the University of California, Davis in 1980 and is a member of the California bar. Mr. Perry also serves on the Board of Directors of Nvidia Corporation.

  • David A. Happel - Executive Vice President, Chief Commercial Officer

    Mr. Happel joined Aerovance with over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry where he has held a number of senior commercial positions. He served as Vice President of Chiron’s pulmonary business unit where he worked from 2002 to 2006. In his roles with Chiron and InterMune, Mr. Happel was responsible for the companies’ marketed and pipeline respiratory portfolios, including inhaled solution and dry-powder molecules for cystic fibrosis and lung transplantation. He started his career and worked for 15 years with Parke-Davis/Pfizer in sales, and in domestic and international marketing roles. He earned his master’s degree in business administration from Indiana State University and received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Indiana University. Mr. Happel also serves on the Board of Directors for the Boomer Esiason Foundation, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.

  • Robert W. Kuhn, Ph.D. - Senior Vice President, Chief Technology Officer

    Following post-doctoral studies in the area of mechanism of steroid hormone action at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Kuhn joined the faculty of the Reproductive Endocrinology Center in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at the University of California, San Francisco. From 1975 to 1990, he performed research into the mechanism of steroid hormone action and protein-steroid interactions. From 1990 to 1993, he served as Director of Biochemistry at Hana Biologics, which later merged with Somatix Therapy Corporation. He joined Bayer Corporation in 1993 became Director of Biochemistry in 1995 and, in 1999, was appointed Vice President of Process Sciences where he was responsible for a department of 140 scientists and 15 contractors. Dr. Kuhn spearheaded the process development of the second generation of Kogenate, which entered the market in 2000. Dr. Kuhn received B.Sc. Degrees in Chemistry and Biochemistry from Washington State University and his doctorate in Biochemistry from the University of Washington (Seattle).

  • Tunde Otulana, M.D. - Senior Vice President, Chief Medical Officer

    Dr. Otulana, a practicing pulmonologist, was the Senior Vice President, Development and Chief Medical Officer at Aradigm until December 2008. From 1991 to 1997, Dr. Otulana was a medical officer and clinical team leader in Pulmonary Drug Products at the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research of the FDA. He was responsible for or participated in the FDA review and approval of major asthma drugs currently marketed in the US as well as major FDA initiatives in the pulmonary drug area. He obtained his M.D. degree at University of Ibadan, Nigeria and completed training in Internal Medicine at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, and in pulmonary medicine at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge, England and Howard University Hospital, Washington, DC. Dr. Otulana served on the FDA's Anesthesiology and Respiratory Therapy Devices Advisory Committee for four years ending November 2005. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Aerosol Medicine and he is an Editorial Reviewer for Chest. He is a member of United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) Aerosol Technical Options Committee charged with overseeing the phase-out of CFCs under the Montreal Protocol. Dr. Otulana is an Associate Clinical Professor in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, University of California, Davis, where he teaches and also runs an outpatient chest clinic. He is an author on many original scientific publications.

  • Anthony M. Rimac, C.P.A. - Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

    Mr. Rimac joined Aerovance from Artemis Medical, Inc. where he led the sale of the Company to Johnson & Johnson in 2004. While at Artemis he served as the Vice President – Finance, and was involved in a number of Private Equity and Debt financings. Prior to his career at Artemis, he was Vice President – Finance & Administration at Aesculap, Inc., a division of the B|Braun Group of Companies. During his tenure at Aesculap, Mr. Rimac was responsible for all Finance, Information Technology and Facilities functions of the Company. He also has served as the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis for Aradigm Corporation, a publicly traded Drug Delivery Company. Mr. Rimac holds a B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University. Mr. Rimac also is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of California.
